Sat Nov 13, 2004 3:20 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

i know this may be a stoopid question, but ive had the urge to run my bike w.o the silencers. after hearing a customer's cr500 landspeed bike....i really want to disturb the peace.
can i run my mc21 w/o the cans? would i have to alter jetting and such? if so....fawk that. its all just for fun. Razz

i hope you only mean removing the end cans, and not the whole pipe. Shocked the engine is set up to run on the exhast fitted to it, so any change you make to the length/back pressure will need the engine setting up for it.

i also say this because my cans are all fugged up. seems the rivets shake them self loose from the weight and vibration. need to fab a hanger to support em.

Are you talking just for a few minutes to see what kinda noise it makes, or for full time street use?

Short term you'll be fine I'm sure, but I wouldn't ride it that way - you'll be murdered down a dark alley by the fun Police!

just for fun, eh. i dont plan on running it permanently. just until rob north finishes fixing my cans and fabbing a hanger. I just wanted to make sure that it wouldnt have any adverse effects to the motor. I work about 4 blocks away.. i hope the law dont mind till then. too bad the shop is right next to a library and police station... Twisted Evil

speaking of Mufflers what effect will a pair of carbon fiber or stainless steel have on the performance and the sound?

best thing would be to make up some pipe the same length as the cans, that you could bolt to the chambers... Then you'd be spot on jetting wise and noisy as hell too!! Twisted Evil Hell, you could even flare the ends and deafen even the hardiest MotoGP mechanic!

I've tried my old 28 without just one can, as it snapped off while riding once... My ears were honestly ringing for about a day!

It may have some affect on performance but just running 4 blocks back an forth I don't think it will have any affect (Quads out a glamis don't run silencers). When i was younger i had a vespa scooter the exahust fell off. So i picked it up and put it on the floor board turned around and went home. Nothing like exhaust right out of the cylinder. A cop went by me in the oppisite direction i just pulled over and waited for him to turn around so I could explain what happened. He was cool about it and told me there had been complants of a loud Motocyle/scooter in the area. I laughed all the way home because i knew who he was looking for my brother he also had a scooter with a race pipe and all the internal baffles cut out you could hear him from 5+ miles away. SWEET!!!!

You will lose some performance, not sure how much horsepower. That's why it is recommended to repack your canister after awhile. I also think the lenght of the canister affects the power also, something like bottom end or top end depending on the lenght of the canister.
