hey guys. I am looking at buying an RGV or an NSR. I have heard thet RGV's have problems with their power valves. What problems do NSR's have. i want an mc 28. What are the main differences, advantages and disadvantages of both.
The real problem is that no NSR was ever exported. This means there is no real information available from official sources, and we all rely on sites like this, and people like TYGA to keep us on the road.
The other pain with any Jap-only bike after 1989 is that they were all restricted to 45hp. It's not the end of the world, as the methods for de-restricting are very well documented, and to be honest it's unlikely you'll buy a bike these days that hasn't been done. When properly set up, the bike will make about 62-65hp in a reliable state of tune, though it is possible to go as far as 80hp if you're willing to do weekly rebuilds!
The handling is delicious if then suspension is sorted. Most bikes will be ten years old now, and will have been fitted with Jap-weight springs. It's worth every penny to have the shock and forks overhauled by the likes of Maxton or MH Racing.
The brakes are straight from the Fireblade, and again, when clean and serviced are awesome. An NSR weighs about 130kg, and a Blade 170 ish, so it's not hard to see why!
Finally, exclusivity. How many have you seen down at the local meeting point? I personally think the NSR blows the rest away styling wise, though of course that can be argued.
What can't be, is the quality: It's Honda, it works. I raced mine for two years, and the only failures (two siezures) were down to my fiddling errors. Like a lot of Hondas though (NC30, VFR750 included), the regulator / rectifyer is a weak spot, and may fail if overheated. The best bet is to replace it with something after-market.
I certainly have no intention of selling mine as long as i can buy two stroke oil... _________________ MC21SP Plaything
