tacho problems mc16

Sat May 06, 2006 10:04 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Got the engine installed and firing again, god it sounded sweet after 8 months, but the tacho only spins to 4500rpm before flickering backwards to zero. Also the servo motor is not working even when the engine is being revved. Could the control box be faulty and the tacho only revving to 4500 is a code for this?. I know newer bikes use this system for fault diagnosis.

ok, traced the servo problem to a loose wire, it now rotates whilst the engine is revving but not when you turn on the ignition. Still have a tacho problem though.

I'd be inclined to think it's a wiring issue with the tacho too.

I've just pulled all the MC16 harness off mine and fitted F3 PGM-II stuff, but where I've cut the harnesses about to remove any excess I found some of it was very corroded on both the 87 parts and the 89 parts, even though both looked in good condition on the exterior.

Best thing to do is get the multi-meter out and check each wire for continuity.

If you suspect the tacho itself, then I have an MC16 instrument cluster for sale now! Wink
