no spark

Fri Jun 18, 2004 9:28 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Just rebuilt my MC21 but cannot get a spark. I have orange/blue to black/ white wire splice exactly as it should be. The red light for low oil level shows even though oil is fully topped up. If level switch was faulty would PGM 3 inhibit spark because it sees a low oil level? Also oil pump solenoid does not seem to click when I switch on. Any Ideas??

Did you perform the wire splice before or after the rebuild?

If it's been performed while the motor was stripped, then reset it back to stock, just to eliminate the variable.

Make sure the battery is fully charged, and 100% operational. The NSR is EXTREMELY sensetive to battery condition.

Next, check all the connectors and the earth (ground) points are clean and secure.

Thinking about it logically; if it ran before the rebuild, and nothing apart from the engine internals have been altered, then there is no reason why it shouldn't produce a spark and run - it's almost certainly going to be electrical!

Andy.

Thanks Andy, but still no joy. Reversed wire splice back to normal, new battery everything seems to work bar ignition which shows zero volts at coils. Are there any checks I can do on PGM 3 to check it out, other than sbstitution? Sad

Very Happy Running at last! Found a loose connection at the PGM. At some stage the bike has had an M max box fitted(orange wire is still there connected to orange /blue coming out of PGM). So all wires to the black connector plug have bullet type connectors. One of the wires to the connectors was loose so I have soldered all the connectors onto the wires(suppose I could have removed theconnectors altogether). Result 2 nice fat sparks and bike now running niceley. Next step wire splice! Thanks Andy. Very Happy
