New MC21 - Ride it or preserve it?

Fri May 12, 2006 1:10 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Greetings NSR fans:
I have a "new" '91 NSR250SE with about 18 miles on the clock. The condition is exceptionl so should I store it or should I ride it? Would rather ride it, but am posting to hear your opinions.
Thank you!
Eric

How/where did you find it?Hoe much of a collector are you. It woulod be nice to ride ii, but it really needs to be preseved. Keep mind that if you ride it it will never again be what it is today. A couple thousand miles later and its just another used bike. Perhaps you should consider selling it to a collector that can properly care for it, and buy a good rider.

Hi Andy Smile

Ride it, I have one which i joined in a bike show, straight out of the show (not winning first place thou) I rode her home. On a good day, I take her out and just go for it Smile that's with a 200% safety factor, knowing that it's a piece of history already. cheers

I'd have to keep in next to my bed and find a less perfect one to burn around on... What's the point in soiling it when there are plenty of 21's out there for little money! Wink

But the question is: If you intend to ride it, are you going to buy a $10,000 version, or a $30,000 version?

Grubby? I thought it looked pretty good. The one I bought looked good in the pictures, but ended up being so grubby I'm pretty much doing a full restoration. By the time I'm done I'll have $8K into it.

I don't recall actually seeing this bike listed. Maybe I just glanced over it because of the price, which in retrospect is not bad. I would tear down the motor sice it hasn't been used in a long time. and replace all the seals as well as rebuild the carbs. There is a '93 SE on cycle trader for $7k, with calif registration. But its been there a while so its probably a bit over priced.

Preserve it and buy another to trash. They'll never make another, and I reckon they'll be worth a bit one day when they ban two strokes...

Not harsh, very accurate. I'm sure we'd all take grubby over rusty & corroded any day. Seller apparently was not interested in expending any energy to improve the appearance. The full coating of cosmoline topped with 15+ years of dust and dirt accumulation served as terrific protection. A good (but careful) scrubbin' and it's like 1991 all over again.
