Crankshaft suitability MC18/21/28

Mon Jun 12, 2006 8:10 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Could anyone confirm if the crank is the same in all the above models? I have recently bought a spare bottom end for my MC18 track bike with no crank - does the 21/28 one fit? Also does anyone know how I can identify which model the bottom end is from as I beleive all the engine numbers start with MC16 - as these do!! Thank you for any help.

MC18 crank has a "conventional" looking centre seal - beside the centre main bearing on the lower cylinder side.

The MC21/28 crank has an "O-ring" type centre seal sat in a groove machined into the centre main bearing.

The MC21/28 and MC18 cranks are NOT interchangeable.

Many thanks for that Andy - is there no way to identify the bottom end - I was told it was MC18 but the guy wasnt sure. Looking at the centre crankshaft journal, I think it is 18 as there is a space where a seal would fit and no groove for an 'o' ring.

Cheers
