If you know what it is, then you will know what to do with it. Otherwise, you probably don't need it.
But basically RSS is an XML standard for supplying news feeds from sources such as Yahoo! News, CNN, Wired, etc... RSS readers list the information in what ever manner they decide to list it in. I for example have an RSS plug in for my Trillian Pro chat software, so I get a list of all the topics from NSR-Worlds forums in my Contacts windows in Trillian Pro.
From there, I can click on that topic, and it will take me to the actual topic in the NSR-WORLD forum.
