Crankshaft diagnosis.

Fri Jun 16, 2006 10:16 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

I had my crankshaft looked at today. Not good. A least one main bearing is bad, one rod bearing, and possibly a rod. I know the maon bearings are available from this site, but what do I do about the the rod bearing, and can somebody spare a rod? maybe somebody has a crank to sell? Suggestions for solutions?

The problem is Honda don't and never have sold the crank set in bits.

The next bit is plaguarized straight from a post by Matt;

The mains aren't an issue as they are available from here.

Big ends are available from Wiseco (Pt # B1059), as are the thrust washers (Pt # W5775). They're not exact replicas but they will work.

Conrods are a hassle because the big end eye is massive compared to anything else. Can't find a replacement of identical dimensions.

What you're left with when rebuilding the crank is new mains, big ends and thrust washers, but still the original rods and crank pins (part of the crank web). So if the pins or the rods are worn or damaged in any way then you're really wasting time and money by rebuilding as it'll never be like a new crank.

So, you need to either get the bearings, find a rod and a crank builder you trust (after confirming your crank pins are OK) or get a whole crank either new or 2nd hand.

Thanks, that was just the information I was looking for. I found oe rrod bearings and a rod, but by were done it may make more sense to buy a new crank.

What do you mean by not exact?
