Vibes through footpegs...

Thu Jun 22, 2006 9:18 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi all.

I've now got my newly acquired MC21 running and riding much better than it was when I got it (thanks for the help and guidance, Andy) and it's no longer trying to kill me by spraying the rear tyre with gearbox oil...

However, I'm still not happy with the amount of vibration I get through the footpegs. I'm assuming that they are all a bit vibey through the pegs like mine? (It's not massively vibey, as though the mains are shot or anthing like that - in fact the motor is newly rebuilt, but it is vibey enough to get in the way of my really enjoying the bike.

The question is: am I just being a big girls blouse or do others find the foot-tickling vibes a pain? Has anyone tried to lessen them. The pegs are rubber topped and I guess this helps, but is there anything else that can be done to dampen the vibes?

Any advice gratefully received

Cheers

Wb

Try loosening all the engine and exhast bolts. then re tighten the bolts and check that nothing is being pulled or over stresed.
I've had this work on LC,s before.

Obviously without riding yours no one can say it isn't particularly bad or has a real problem, but my NSR (and RVF to an extent) makes my hands and feet tingle on long runs sometimes.

I'm not too sure it can be "fixed" as reducing vibes and having good feel of what the bike is doing are clearly in conflict. Just like being comfy and having a good (from a going fast point of view) riding position are.

The Tyga tail and rearsets make a massive difference (i.e. a lot less comfy and a lot more vibes) but as a bike to actually ride quickly they are a vast improvment on the rubber pegs (ergh...slippery when wet!) and sofa seat they come with.

If they really are bothering you, you can make some brackets to mount the exhausts somewhere else, as they carry a lot of vibes to the mounting point, which is obviously very near the pegs.

Thanks for the responses fella's.

The vibes are not absolutely horrendous, and I can perhaps just get used to it. I rode Andy's 21 the other day (cheers, mate Very Happy ) and while it was certainly quicker than mine (for the time being Wink ) it was not noticebly less vibey, so I guess it's just an NSR 'thing' - The Aprilia RS is similar. For me tho' It does take the shine off what is otherwise a great bike. I'll try the mounting bolts thing for the time being (thanks Jeff) and generally go over it all again to make sure everything is set as it should be etc. - but maybe I just need to wear two pairs of socks, stop being such a pansie and get on with it. Rolling Eyes
