Cylinder Porting

Tue Aug 08, 2006 7:39 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I want to clean up the ports in the cylinders but I can't find the right tools for the job. Dremel stuff is too short, and regular die grider stuff is too big. Does anybody have any other ideas?

A dremel with a flex attachment? I used similar porting my RGV engine. Look on the RGV forum, they've got some stuff there if you look.

Only use grindstones near your Nikosil! The cutters will chip it like buggery...Seen it done, not guilty myself. Shocked

The flex attachent is like a thick pen to use, fits into the ports itself. Keep the line fron the dremel to the cutter as straight as possible, though.

ps Lovin that "Republic of Texas" line

I've been playing with it. I can get to 60-70% of the cylinder with a small cutter, but not with the polisher. The Flex attachement really doesn't help much. I need to get around the corners wher the port goes into the cylinder. I think I need a small 90 deg. attachemnt.

Be careful. It's easy to render a cylinder useless if you havent got the correct tools for the job.

Take the note about flaking the Nikasil off quite seriously. It's easily done.

I use diamond attachments for cutting the nikasil, with very little pressure. Just let them do their work and you'll get there eventually.

Just cleaning the nikasil off the port windows can add a pony or two as it's pretty ugly out the box.

There's also a bit of a mismatch between the cases and transfers in the cylinder, so if the cases are apart there's a good opportunity to get that sorted.
