Bearing placement on crank ? MC21

Mon Aug 14, 2006 7:38 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

When looking at RC46s crank problems, I took out my old failed crank (it lasted 12min after I bought the bike!)
The big end bearing and the bearing (with an o-ring) both on the magneto side failed. The previous owner had just installed the crank and I never could figure out why it failed.

I compared it to the partsmanual and the outer bearings were installed on the wrong side.

Is the manual correct ? Showing the bearing with the o-ring on the magneto side ?

Why is there only an o-ring on one side ?

The parts manual just isn't clear about this. The O-ring goes on the center bearing, and a C-clip goes on the clutch side. Nothing on the mag side.

Oh yea now I remember.

Just looking at the list and my crank, I got the idea that there also should be an o-ring in the groove on the bearing Embarassed

Well I've only changed a crank one time, some years back (knock on wood)

There shouldn't be a groove on the bearing on the mag side.
