Rich and Lean mixture?

Guys just want to clear things about what I read in the tuning section..

If you turn the airscrew clockwise will it richen the mixture or make it lean?

pls expain this clearly becuase from what I understood, if you open the airscrew ( counterclockwise ) it will make it the mixture richer.. is that correct?

thanks matt!

one more thing, my 18 will rev smooth up to 5 thou then kinda struggle between 5 thousand RPM to 6 Thousand but past 6 thou it all the way to the redline.. what could have caused this?

They shouldn't be like that. If it's happening on WOT the it might be a size too rich on the main.
