Are you just fitting outers or all three bearings? We can do the crank for you, and I'm actually working on a "Performance Services" page at the moment.

Outers aren't too bad, but if the centre bearing and seal need doing too, then it's not as simple and just pressing it apart, fitting the bearings, and slapping it all back together! It has to be trued, and ours are done to 0.0125mm!

The big-ends naturally depends on the crank pins, but if the pins are OK then we will probably do the big-ends too. Not sure on rods yet.

There is a non-refundable £25 deposit that covers assessment of the crank. Naturally there is no point in fitting main bearings if the big-end pins are worn as it's a false economy. The £25 covers removing the outers, splitting the crank, and measuring all the components.

If the crank is beyond repair, it will be returned disassembled (at your own cost) or scrapped, depending on your preference.

Main bearings and centre seal for the MC16 are £125, and the crank rebuild is £150.

Total cost is £300 + return shipping.

Are you buying used core cranks? You know for less than $100 (50 pounds) more you can get a NEW crank.

Not MC16-18 ones you can't. Plus have you every measured up a brand new NSR 21/28 crank? Even new they are a mile out of true and really need trueing up unless all your going to use it for is going to the shops.

Do you have a problem with us trying to provide a service and fund the Site at the same time James? If you do, then I suggest you piss off!

I have dedicated a lot of time and personal expense to saving NSR owners money, and it really niggles me when someone comes along and trys to stamp on me in my own playground!

You ain't the first to do it, and I dare say you won't be the last, but give your brain a chance before you engage your mouth in future.

£300 for a rebuild is a good price - no-one's asking you to pay it! I tell you what, you go get me a brand new MC16 crank to my door, and I'll give you £350 for it as soon as it turns up!

Give me a break Andy. I have personally given site support money, and we have had discussions about bringing more funding to the site, so don't play it like I'm trying to squash you.

Also, I didn't realize when you were quoting prices for your services that it was only for the MC16/18 crank.

I just think that people should understand all options (and pittfalls) avaialable so they can make the most informed decission possible. Is that wrong?

I'm just fed up with never-ending PC replies and moderation.

I don't want charity, but I do appreciate support, and I'd much rather provide a service to make a few quid (as that's all I would make from crank rebuilds).

The cheapest "listed" price for a crank after shipping (and that's MC21/28 ) is £409, and there is the high probability that in the UK VAT and import duty at 21% will get charged on the price, making a total of £494.89. That's all irrelevant if you have an MC16 though, as the crank is different!

The next cheapest crank on the UK market is £520.

In my experience a good used crank is going to set you back at least £200, so £300 for a rebuilt one is a bloody good deal I think.

The only other rebuild service I have heard of was £600, again for an MC21 crank.

Once again I find myself justifying my existence. Rolling Eyes

Got to say I was thinking along the same lines as James, until I read the other thread & realised by Stephen talking about an 18 F3 crank that perhaps it wasnt a 21 we were talking about.
Even if it was a 21 crank, I`d probably get a new crank & have it trued for the sake of £50 odd quid more.
The way couriers chuck parcels around at the depots I`ve been to, would make me doubt that a crank would be in the same state it left the place it was sent from.
Just my point of view, I`ve also got another crank I got spare with my road bike. This has a duff gen side main. I will probably send it to you Andy, when it`s time. As this will probably be used in a race bike, & I`ll hopefully be able to collect it instead of using post/couriers.

Again, let's not lose sight of the fact we are talking MC16 (and potentially MC18) cranks please. All this "I would buy new" is irrellevant as they are no longer available - anywhere!
