I bought an instrument assembly with spider webs, water and dead bugs in the clocks and have taken them apart, but am afraid of using to much force on the reset wheel for the trip counter, as its broken on the other speedometer I have.

Any tricks ?

The reset wheel should be hollow. If I remember correctly, it is held in place by a very small cross head screw. You need to insert a small screwdriver down it's length and unscrew it. Use the smallest phillips screwdriver you have.
