Mon Jan 29, 2007 1:43 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Guys,

Just want to ask if in your country it is mandatory to use fuels withe ethanol 5% content? because here in the philippines it just became at law that mandates all fuels to be added 5% ethanol. will there be a problem with my mc18? thats my biggest concern.

thanks to all..

Most, if not all Jap bikes will run Gasohol (ethanol 5%). I think Honda sorted this out some time ago. However, it might be worth fitting new fuel lines and carb seals etc if you're in any doubt as if they're new there's more chance of them withstanding the alcohol.

One thing you could do to prolong the life of the rubber bits is to drain the carbs at the end of a ride, or just switch off the fuel and run it dry before leaving it. To be honest though, 5% is not gonna do damage.

As for jetting, the extra oxygen in the fuel might mean that you can go a jet size up, especially if you're on the edge to start with.

Thanks for the reply matt,

So you mean there will be a possibilty that it will affect the rubber bit of the carbs? but how about the engine itself? what will be the effect on 2 strokes engine? like in lubrication? can I just make my carbs a bit rich than the original settings to cope with this?
