how is parts availability for engine rebuild?

Fri Jun 08, 2007 2:39 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

being that these are two stroke bikes, and need to be rebuilt every once in a while, what's the story on parts for the rebuilds?

are there still NOS parts from honda, or has it been reduced to sourcing "less worn" used pieces? Any aftermarketters step up and start selling repro pieces yet?

with average use, what's the lifespan on a stock engine? 20,000km?

thx!

I've had no issue getting rebuild parts for a MC16....getting replacement cylinders is tricker tho.

Pistons, rings, bearings and gaskets can be obtained from Tyga performance and others.

Are you still looking at that MC28? I'm was thinking about myself, but i noticed the mileage and I know what it would cost to rebuild. Parts are still available, especially the common parts. I use a guy in California to get my parts and his prices and shipping rates have been good. I don't think you should have any problem rebuilding the motor.

I asked the guy in texas if he'd consider an offer less than his minimum bid, and he replied with "NO."

so... yeah that's enough of that. A high mileage R that doesn't run and needs to be exported from the US upon sale is not worth what he's asking.
I've found a trove of nsr's that have just been released from customs in Canada, so I'm leaning more towards a MC21 that this company has.
Would you be able to post up the contact information for your parts guy in Cali? It's always nice to have parts on the continent that you can count on Smile
