I've been considering buying that ebay MC28 in Houston. But the high milage and lack of card, which means it won't start, has second guessing. The seller says its an SE, but it looks like it has Magteks to me. Figure $3,000 for the bike, $1,000+ to rebuild the motor, who knows how much to fix the card issue? Plus the cost to go through the suspension and get proper springs so I can ride it. Then I have to worry about how to register it. I was thinking maybe for a track bike, but I would rather get an RS250. _________________ james

I guess he said he lost the card. I wrote him and I'm waiting to hear back. _________________ james

Sounds like a pretty careless owner to me. We're not talking a lost tyre valve cap here, we talking the only way of starting the bike!
And if the engine / gearbox is screwed, what better way of hiding the fact eh?
Perhaps the only question is the registration one. How upset would you be to go through all that work, and be turned down for a street bike?
Might be better off waiting and buying a street registered bike, then spending the money on doing that up instead. _________________ MC21SP Plaything

1. If your close enough to the guy, see if there is someone in the US that has a PGM IV and card you can "borrow" to test the bike with. Knowing it will at least start is a good thing.
2. pull the exhaust and check out the pistons. Make sure they are not siezed, and the inside of the cylinder look good from looking up the exhaust ports. If you can convince the guy, pull the carbs and reeds to check out the crank as much as possible (this will be a little harder as the reed cage gasket will need to be replaced to do this).
3. If # 2 looks good, offer the guy $3000.00 for it as is. Even with a missing keycard, it's worth at least that based on how it looks. Being non-reg'd and no keycard, it's not worth much more past that at this point. _________________ Charles Gallant
In previous aauctions he has said that a condition of the sale is that the bike be delivered outside of the country. He bought it from US customs and it seems to have some issues in that regard. You could always buy a VIN plate from someone else who has a wrecked mc28... _________________ n00b
Thanks for everybody's comments. I think I will pass. I always wanted a -28, but I need another bike like I need a hole in my head, and it would be allot of trouble to get this one. If I get a -28 I'll just wait for a "real" Repsol to come up. _________________ james
