mc16 manual & basic recommendations wanted

Sat Jul 07, 2007 9:03 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

from the wise words of a forum member my guess is manuals for nsrs are rarer than rocking horse sh*t buried beneath hens teeth or none existent, is this true?

if so can i have some basic info. i know they are basic but with this beauty the last thing i want to do is seize it on the basics.

i needs some recommendations on:

1 What does the PM mean?

2 anti-freeze/coolant type and mix i.e. 50-50 ethylene glycol mix? this bike will never see wet or cold weather, unless i get trapped on a damp track day.

3 tyre pressures for road use (only dry use, yes i do respect the old thing)? dare i request track day pressures or would i be laugh of this site.

4 best or preferred two stroke oil?

5 best or preferred gear box oil and level ckecking?

6 and i've see conflicting warm up procedures. is this a necessity or not. i normally choke all my bikes for less that 15 seconds and let them stand running for less that 5mins before gently going out until it warms quarter way up the temp gauge, then open it up from then on.

7 when would you put new rings in?

8 any good tips.

sit up, give best, i'm on the brakes and coming by...oops, sorry about that, i thought i could make it, hope it's not too badly damaged, that's racing.

I also just got myself a MC16 than I am fixing up.

So to add to 80s' questions, I will proberbly run with the 2stroke tank, what ratio of petrol to oil are you guys running? With quality 2T oil I run my dirtbike at 40:1.

For gear/clutch oil, I run Motul 2T Transoil, which I assume will be fine to use in my NSR?

Yes, altough I have a scanned copy of a service manual for the '16 I can mail to you, it should answer your questions.

as for oil I use castrol tts, smells lovely Laughing

50/50 water and antifreeze sounds ok.

I choke mine for about 30 secs, let it stand for 60 secs and then gentle riding until 1/4 way up gauge.

new rings every 10k.

1 What does the PM mean?

do you mean personal message?? It's like an e-mail through the site, easiest way to contact another member without having to swap addresses.

hope this helps Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

yeah that'd be great if you could send me a service manual. shall i PM my emails address or can i get it via PM. to save you time i could then send it on to alannsr250 aswell.

i went out yesterday on the 16 and considering i do lots of different off- roading, i had just as much fun on the 16 as i do the dirt bike, plus i didn't have to send two hours cleaning and preping afterwards. i went to show a mate and instead of taking the piss he wants one. i told him the first rule of nsr world and that is not to talk about nsr world. Damn me an my big mouth, now that's one less extra bike for me. Jesus, he's a mate, listen to me, i'm becoming obsessed by the things.

thanks for all the advice, much appreciated.
