help

Thu Jul 12, 2007 12:09 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

hello

im having problems with my wiring loom on my mc21

the problem im having is that i am getting no power to the powervalve servo from the wiring loom but everywhere else on the bike works fine. The servo itself works fine when giving 12volts from the battery. The bike runs as normal apart from the obvious powervalves.

if anyone has any suggestions it would be greatful

cheers

Assuming we're talking MC18 or 21:

The powervalve is controlled by the PGM unit mounted in the tail unit.

It may be that the circuits controlling the power valve have burned out - this is not uncommon, though usually this breaks the PGM unit completely and the bike will not run.

Best to unplug the powervalve from the loom until you rectify the problem, as the PGM may be repairable if the bike is still running.

I'd start the hunt by removing the cover from the PGM. Looking inside you will see lots of brown 'goo' covering the circuit board. If any of this shows discolouration, and burning then you have a problem!

the bike runs as normal. When the pgm is unplugged and the iginition switched on there is no power coming from or going to the powervalve servo. But every other plug has 12volts going to it when tested.

I'll say it again then:
The powervalve is controlled by the PGM unit mounted in the tail unit.

If you unplug it, how will power get from the PGM to the servo?

Ouch, not good news.

How bad is the damage - can you post a picture of it?

If the only part not working is the powervalve, I may be able to fix it...
