I have found a crack in my chassis ? WTF. On the kickstart sidewhere the box section is welded to the bottom section. Just near the rear shock canister. Right down the middle of the weld !! Its only very thin. About 3" long.
Anyone else ever seen this ? I ve organised to have it welded, but i have never seen this before. _________________ Winning isn't everything, but loosing isn't anything
Never heard of this before. The quality of build during the NSR's run was Honda at it's best. I would advise you have the whole frame checked over, as it sounds like it may have been in a major shunt.
Better to be safe than sorry. _________________ Andy.

It was involved in a minor road shunt (hence why i am rebuilding it)
I took it to a fella over here in Brisbane called Dave Pellett, who straightens and fixes alot of race bikes that get tossed. If there was anything cracked or not right he would of found it. _________________ Winning isn't everything, but loosing isn't anything
Im amazed to see that weld cracked like that.. Id guess it was a bad weld, not enough filler rod or penetration. Curious how many miles on that frame as aluminum stresses over time.
This chassis has 32000 km on it (about 19000 miles i guess)
Engine pulled down at 32000km. Mech recons engine looked like it had done barley 8000, checked all clearences, replaced all seals and gskts, set of rings and hoan. Only done 200 ks since. Ironing out all these gremlins _________________ Winning isn't everything, but loosing isn't anything
my f reg nsr 125f had a big crack in the alcast frame between the top and bottom engine mounts.
drill a hole either end of the crack and it wont get any worse then grind the weld off wer the crack is making sure it doesent get hot. them send it to somone to be welded there shud be plent of people around, i drill on end on my crack and bolted two tread plate cover one on the crack side and on on the other lol so i could mot it, _________________ Honda nc23 CBR400 AERO 1986, 1990 honda NC23 Tri-Arm, 1987VFR400 NC24 Rothmans Rep, NSR250 MC16 1987, CL250s 1983. Ive already lined us a fella to repair it. Very handy with the ole' welder, so he'll do a top job on it for me _________________ Winning isn't everything, but loosing isn't anything

Nah. Been off the road for about 3 years. Still ironing out gremlins, like cracked chassis. Should be going reliably buy sept. Let you know
I work with a guy with a CRB1000 who was up that way on sunday just gone. Said there was lots of bikers out. He may know them. Hes always at Darington and QLD raceway doing track days.
I dont know if im real keen for Glorious. In the WRX, yep. NSR, might get some more k's under the belt, and some new tyres (read : old, hard not confidence inspiring). My balls are much larger in the rex than the NSR at this stage Definatly car guy before im bike guy. _________________ Winning isn't everything, but loosing isn't anything
Speaking to a guy today, who said to be carefull if welding the chassis as some road bikes have some sort of foam in the hollow sections of the chassis, and that it is flamable.
I dont think an NSR would,as it sounds like unnecisary weight. Anyone know for sure ? _________________ Winning isn't everything, but loosing isn't anything
other issue in oz is the recent requirement (vic anyway) for all frame welding to be done by a certified welder and then to be inspected by a engineer.
cool as, went over on friday nite myself with a mate in a vp 6, alot more bumpy than it was 8 years ago, he liked it that much that he went home a different way.
Rebuilding my bike as well, brought another pair of Carbs, HRC Race Loom and box, flywheel, Clutch inner, Wheel bearings, Piston kit, Twin Uni Filters 52mm and 55mm , Dry clutch Setup, Its using a Michelin Pilot powers rear and Bridgestone front.
looking at annodising/powdercoating the frame. and aiming for Majority of F3 and HRC gear., Guy at works Uncle is WAYNE GARDNER, Rather interesting. _________________ HRC Is Getting Expensive
