I have started saving up for an MC21 NSR 250. There are zero in my area and I really want one. I have a vintage 79 Honda CR250R and I have a weird love for two-stokes.

I will want a pretty nice MC21 titled for US street use.
How are the prices running on these??
I have searched the site and looks like 6000.00 is a good number.
Also I would prefer one on the east coast.
Since I am new to NSR's anything I should look for or try to avoid??

Keep your eye on craigslist and ebay.. 6 thousand should get you a pretty nice MC21.

Read this forum daily so you can learn about the bike. You might think your getting a deal but its real easy to get bit in the ass on these bikes. Parts are not easy to come by so many of these bikes don't get the service they need.

Decide what you want and how you will use it. A mint condition all origional or perfectly restored bike is rare and will cost you more. You may want a driver your not afraid to get hurt which will cost less. Somebody recently mentioned that the bodywork determines the value. Unpaintded/unrepaired bodywork is worth more than fiberglass or aftermarket, but if your going to track the bike then you probably won't want OEM bodywork. Original Rothmans bodywork is worth $1,000 more, but its rare and often duplicated. I can't even remember ever seeing an original Rothmans for sale (they have all been fakes).

Stick with SE/SP versions. That way you get the better suspension and dry clutch. The SP also has Mag wheels, but all this costs more.

$6k is a good starting number but expect the prices to go up for the better machines. Check with the forum before handing your money over.

stop messing around, get yourself on the road and it'll give you motivation to pay off any loan. by the time you'd saved for the nsr something else will pop up and the money will be gone. plus if you buy now you'll save money cos decent bikes go up all the time...the chinese want nsrs too.

this time next summer you'll have oily fingers, nsr knowledge coming out your ears on a bike you know, you would have earnt your crust and will be living the dream and looking out for your next se/sp purchase.

Got to keep a sharp eye on the classifieds section then...but still 2008 sometime.

I have a vintage honda still to finish first.

Man, you really have to get a ride on an NSR... or any well sorted 250 2-stroke!

An NSR and a Monster are like chalk and cheese, but the 250 is bags more fun! What would you rather have, a thumper fit for use as a water pump, or a stroker fit for use as a chainsaw... I know what gives me the biggest grin, and it ain't shifting muddy liquid out of a pond - let's carve some sh*t up!!

I had a NSR mc16 and a ducti monster 600. the monster is great for the motorway ie long straight roads but where i live in wales i havent seen a straight road for years and the NSR is where she is best.

Also you can expect about 60hp (for free with fettling) from a NSR weighing 134kg dry and the monster is about 70 hp ducati and weighs 184kg dry.

You'll be looking a while before you find one, Styler.... Trust me. I wanted one a few years back, but they really are hard to find in the US. Gave up and bought a 944 Turbo instead.... 2 years later the search was on again. Luckily, in the first couple of weeks of looking, a member of this board posted his bike (titled) up for sale. He did however sell it through eBay, so I did have some compition. The price shot up 2500 in the 10 seconds !!!

Any way, point is I got my 1990 R model(has all SP parts and 93 SE paint) for 6600, plus shipping from Cali(I'm in Pittsburgh) 800, and another 100 or so to ship the spare parts.... So about 7500. My bike is basicly brand new, all the parts a seriously new on it, it's well sorted and needs nothing at all. I feel like I stole it from the previous owner every time I ride it !!!

I also bought a pretty nice shape MC21 SE in non running condition for 1700 with no papers. It was within driving distance.

I think for around 6000, you can find a pretty good machine. I also say you should buy sooner than later... You'll understand when you finally ride one, you'll be mad at yourself for not getting one sooner.
