Caustic soda?

Tue Sep 25, 2007 11:53 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Will caustic soda work to clear the chambers of built-up carbon? If I were to pour some down there and slosh it around will I be met with disaster or a sparklingly carbon-less expansion chamber?

I dont have an oxy-A torch so I can burn it out.

Caustic soda is very nasty stuff, but it is great for cleaning pipes!

Wear gloves and eye protection if you're gonna go this route.

Thanks. Is it sold under the name caustic soda, or something else?

Is that why my stock pipes feel so heavy.. They must weigh 15-20 lbs each.

Nope, they are just heavy! They are double-skinned and also have some insulation, all for noise control.

They actually work bloody well (only MC18 and MC21), but are bloody heavy! I have a set that have had all the extra skin/padding removed (sounds like an American girl I once knew!) and it makes a big difference.

Pipes

They are very quiet and very heavy on the 28, neither one being a good thing for power. Saving for some TYGA pipes.

Junk the cans on a 28 for a set of free flowing ones, and grind out the restricting washer in each down-pipe. Makes a big difference.

Pipes

They are so damn heavy ..I thought about losing the restrictor ring and getting carbon cans but I may just set them aside in case someone wants the bike stock. Id much rather see polished stainless chambers and carbon cans that weigh half the stockers.

Any chance of getting a photo of where the washer "should" be? Rolling Eyes

If you take the pipes off and the restricting washers don't blind you, they aren't there!

If there are there and you can't tell what they are, then you shouldn't be messing around with them!
