I would like to tidy up the frame on my MC21,I don't want to polish it ,the factory finish is what I would like to achieve-any suggestions as how to do this?
I have done the following to get a close to factory look on an aluminum frame.
I first clean it up really good with something like Mothers Mag Polish (yes it will polish it), then i take something like a 00 scotch brite and "scuff" it up in the same direction (so I do long strokes down the entire lenght of the frame rail).
For the cast portion, I first scrub it really good with mineral spirits, blow it off with compressed air, then use contact cleaner to realy clean up the cast areas.
Works pretty well. _________________ Charles Gallant
I think the factory finish maybe difficult to achieve as the spars are anodised , if you attack it with anything too abrasive you may have problems ,if you want it to look stock. However I achieved a decent finish on alloy swingarm with scotch pads as Charles has suggested , i finished it off with eastwood self etching clear lacquer ,for protection from the elements, which is available in the UK from Frost's.
Charles's tip is great for bare aluminium frames. It can bring and old poo kart back into it's glory.
The NSR is a pain though 'cos of the anodizing, but careful use of scotchbrite and soapy water can bring back the shine in your life, without turning it into a Harley Chrome special.
