It doesn't really matter, as no-one can tell you what it is by frame number except Honda, and I've only ever heard of one person that claimed to have managed to verify the exact model and year with them.

Mine is a 1991 MC21SE, but it has Magteks, so as far as anyone is concerned now it's an SP! I'd never sell it under false pretences, but as far as spec is concerned, it's certainly not an SE anymore! Very Happy

ALL NSR250's are Japanese imports. They were never officially exported to ANY country outside of Japan. There was a small number imported into one European country (which one, I can't remember) for a local race series, but it was still unofficial.

Sorry Andy

NSRs were definitely imported by Honda in to New Zealand in the late 80's and (maybe) very early 90's.

We definately had MC 16's and MC18's but i am not sure if we had official 21's (as i type this i think probably not).

My first race bike was an NS250 and i then went to a MC18 and then on to RGV's which were better because you could buy them new (ie unthrashed).

I still believe performance wise they were very similar but hard to confirm as all the guns at the time went RGV, although i do have a video of one international superbike support race at Manfield where the MC18 beat 20+ RGV's.

Still hard to quantify as he was probably a better rider (Dave Cole) than most of the others at the time.

Cheers
Mark

There were a lot of NSR's imported into the UK too... doesn't mean they were official bikes! Wink

The MC21 would've apparently cost £7500+ circa 1991~92 according to Honda (I think that was from an article in Grey Bike magazine if I recall correctly) which was considered too expensive for foreign markets.

The NSR was a JDM model only.

If Honda did export NSR's outside of Japan then their frame number would show this.

All home market Honda's have a frame number starting with 1. eg
MC18-1******

However if the bike was not intended for the home market its given a 2. eg MC18-2******

The US of course have their own frame numbers as they would.

It would be interesting to know if any of these so call imported by Honda NSR were infact just as grey as any other import or if they were genuine imports.

Anyone here have a frame number starting 2?

I'll put the customery 50p on these bikes (if they exist) being either the same as the Swedish bikes (it was Honda Sweden who imported 30 bikes in "full power spec" for a series called Superstreet then sold 1/2 of them for road use) or the same as my first RVF was, i.e. intended for the Japanese market but taken overseas unused and registered new.

So not really a grey import at all as the "grey" refers to it having a (near) untraceable past however all these bikes were still originally intended to be sold in the Japanese market.

I am not sure what country spec they were but the NZ bikes were officially imported by Honda New Zealand and were full power models.

I was sponsored by a Honda shop at the time and the cranks that it blew were partially funded by Honda NZ as racer support/warranty (one was bad fitment).

My guess would be anywhere from 30 - 70 odd bikes were brought in.

Whether they were japan market ones or not i don't know.....

I had my old mc21's age verified by Honda UK a couple of years ago when I went through registering it, got an H reg plate.

I believe Leigh also registered his mc28 race bike with the chassis number too.
