Help needed in dispute with seller of cylinder

Wed Dec 12, 2007 12:48 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I bought a cylinder, presented as new and type B.

I got a cylinder with bad Nikasil, only 85.7mm high, with goo where the RC valve sits a badly made groove for an o-ring and more, but the seller thinks these are just differencies between years and the height is within tolerances.

Would you use this cylinder ?

I'd be wanting my money back. Regardless of what the seller is claiming about the differences, it's definitely NOT a new barrel. Misrepresentation of goods.

Was the sale through this Site? If so, let me know the details. 85.7mm is WAY too short too.

No, it was through that infamous auction site.

The pin holes in the plating are common on replated barrels. Goo around the power valve hole is put there by the platers as well, you just peal it off.

As has been said though 85.7mm is no good for anything.

The holes are bigger than pinholes.
I have 2 used and 2 replated, here, no holes in the Nikasil.

Well even the goo indicates its a replated and not new, as he advertised it.

I also wonder what was used for making the o-ring groove. A file ?

Didn't you see any pictures of it before you bid on it?

Its far from new but I guess the plating is new.

You can't really run it like that ayway. You'd either have to take a load out of the head or run with 1mm worth of base gasket.
