mc 18 rear lght wiring prob!!

Fri Jan 04, 2008 3:23 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

hi guys. my rear lights don't work.ckecked the bulbs which are ok, and the brake lights work ok. looked at the wiring by the rear light and there is a black wire thats not connected to anything. it just has a bare end ( as though there should be a connector on it) i was thinking that it was an earth but before i connect it to the frame thought i'd better check in case i blow the fuses or damage something?
any ideas?? Question

Earth (ground) is green on the NSR. Black is +12V.

Remember to always post the EXACT model for tech help.

The black wire on all PGM models goes directly from the fusebox to the kill switch.

Brown is for the tail lights. Green/yellow for the brake lights. Green is global earth/ground.

Just want to add that you shouldn't be touching anything to anything without a multi meter unless it's hot and humid and you are in the privacy of your hotel room!! Wink

well i'll just tape it up then. strange it's at the back end of the bike? maybe i'll trace it one day when i'm bored, anything else that will stop the rear lights working? front works fine. cant seem to find the side light though.. and i'm waiting on an idicator relay as mines missing for some reason.

No difference in colours between the R5K and the MC21, so the diagram in the Workshop should be good for your needs.

The side (park) light is brown, as are the tail lights. Both are fed from the main light switch on the left clipon. White/green from the fusebox is the +12V in, brown is out.

The brown is connected to brown/white at the front of the harness (for the instrument lights).

The spare black lead under the seat unit on a MC18 R5k-R6k doesn't go anywhere. They all have them. Just leave it tucked out of the way somewhere.
