I am thinking about having a shop do my rebuild. Do you think $500 plus parts is a reasonable price for a reputable shop with lots of two stroke experience? _________________ Mike
If you're in Florida then think about calling Something Extra Cycles in Altamonte Springs. Leave your details and ask them if they can forward them to Mark Brown.
I can't guarantee he will want the work, but you could do a lot worse than take it to him! I'm sure there are other shops with 2-stroke experience, but I don't know of any personally. Last time I was in Florida a guy approached me at the Daytona AMA races after someone told him I was there. He put me up in a hotel in Ft. Lauderdale for 3 days all expenses paid to sort his MC21 because he'd had it for over a year and couldn't find anyone to work on it!! _________________ Andy.

Thanks, Mark Brown is who I talked to today, so I am glad for the recommendation, thanks. I guess he also goes by GPCustoms, or at least thats his website _________________ Mike
Have you considered doing the job yourself?I did mine ,after a siezure, with no experience of anything other than basic maintenance.was a little daunted ,but with help from this forum ,managed fine.Worth considering!?
That was my original plan, but I started getting concerned, due mainly to the parts availability problem. Where did you get your parts, and how long did it take you? I got a quote from Redline-ci, which a lot of guys on here have said is a good source... _________________ Mike
I sourced the parts from Tyga-link from here-,used the workshop section to educate myself, plus any requests for assistance were answered here(thanks all).doing the job didn't take that long at all, just have the correct tools and dive in is my advice,I would never have attempted a rebuild before, but I now feel more than confident to recommend that you give it a go. I posted my progress here ,do a search,it may be of assistance.
Talk to Mark nicely, and I imagine he will let you supply a flow of cold beers and pizza while you watch, learn, and even get involved if you like!
Mark's a real sound guy. So I'm pretty sure he'll show you your way around the motor.
As bushman says though, it really isn't a complicated job. The NSR is by far the easiest of the 250's to work on. We all had to start somewhere, and some of us even had to start without workshop manuals or websites! _________________ Andy.

Good stuff, you won't regret it,although you might end up as a serial tinkerer, spending too much money and time once you realise how easy it is to work on your machine
