Honda NSR250 NSR 250 NC21 NC28 Big Bore Kit

Thu Jan 10, 2008 7:32 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Has anybody else noticed this blatent rip off for a big bore Kit on ebay. Supposedly 275cc but not sure how they get that with the either 2 x 125 or 2 x 150 barrels and the VHM heads. Even has the cheek to say its better than Tygas 300 kit.

Over to you Matt!!!!!!!!!!

Have you bought one and found it not to be 275cc or that it is poor quality?

Would you trust someone who claims the kit is for an NC21 and NC28? Whatever they are lol... Rolling Eyes

Those VHM heads don't look like mine, and the piston is only a single ring, whereas TYGA's Wiseco's are twin ring.

VFR400's! Laughing

They obviously know their stuff! You can't beat trying to break into a market when you can't address the potential buyers correctly. Rolling Eyes

Well, forget the pic for a starter, the barrel on the right is an NSR250mc21/28 barrel, the one on the left is an NSR150 one.
The VHM head looks like an RGV one to me, it's certainly not an NSR250 or NSR150 one.

The text implies these are overbored NSR250 barrels;
"Power Valve Manifold For Big Bore"
"Heads Machined to suit big bore"
etc.

Ther's no reason you can't overbore an NSR barrel to a convenient piston size indeed Eric Gorr did so for years.

But from my point of view one of the big attractions with the 300 kit is the fact it gives you new and obtainable barrels, if I was going to spend £600 tuning a 250, I'd spend £600 tuning a 250 not a 2xx.

I think the maximum Eric ever got one out to was 263cc by boring. I rode the first one he ever did and it was pretty quick to be honest, but nowhere near F3-250 quick.

I've not ridden a 300 that's F3-250 quick either yet though, although I expect Matt's will be now if I get to ride it again sometime! Very Happy

Got to say my bit, and I hope those DPSRACINGLTD guys are reading this.

Fontyyy (the facts and figures man) has a sharp eye. The right cylinder is NSR250 and the left is NSR150. The VHM head is RGV for sure. Note that it is a 5 stud mounting whereas the NSR150 is 6. Possible that your average Joe might not notice this, but that same everage Joe might find it a little tricky to fit a square peg in a round hole.

The piston "looks" smaller than the bore. Can't confirm this without the parts in hand, but looks like it'll be a little bit of a sloppy fit to me! As I say though, this could be the funny angle so not certain there.

Their comments:

x 2 275cc Big Bore Barrels ported, bored & nicosiled

How do you bore a cylinder to make it smaller? You'd need 56.6 pistons for a 275cc kit. Now a quick check reveals that Wiseco have 56.5mm pistons, but only in 14 and 16mm pins that I can see. Probably do have 15mm but I just skimmed the catalogue. They have 56mm pistons with 15mm pins but then that would be 268 not 275cc.

x 2 Forged Wiseco Moto GP Piston kits with a special Coating; including gudgeon pin, circlips and rings.

Not sure that any of the MotoGP bikes use two stroke pistons. Confused

Power Valve Manifold For Big Bore.

I'm a bit lost on this one.....could someone explain Exclamation

Heads Machined to suit big bore

That makes sense. But that RGV head might leak a bit if you drill an extra hole. Or maybe they fill up the existing holes with filler and redril. Probably easier if they just bought my specific 300cc kit heads that I developed with VHM than try to modify a Suzuki part.

Optional VHM Head (Special Offer when buying this kit)

See above comment.

Well, that's me done.

Oh, and Andy, you'll get a go on the 300 next time. That's if I don't blow it up, or crash it at Bira tomorrow Wink [/b]

I would guess the only way to get 275cc from 2x150 barrels is to remove the plating, bore them, fit a new liner and replate that. It's not that uncommon infact to do on iron linered barrels.

Has DPS ever spoke to you Matt as I know they know who you are and I also know they have been buying Tyga 300 kits?

hopefully the pictures are just for demonstrational purposes???? perhaps just to show how shiny and new your barrels gonna look when they've finished messing with them?

"Power Valve Manifold For Big Bore"
Funny, I "read it", and copied and pasted it it the words "Power Valve modified For Big Bore" was what went into my head.
