NSR slider in RS forks?

Sat Mar 01, 2008 8:06 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Helloo
I am looking at a set of 1990 RS250 forks at the moment. Problem is, the chrome is knackered, pitted to buggery.
BUT: I have a fine set of NSR R forks doing nothing. Can I swap the shiny, chrome NSR sliders into the RS forks??

Cheers

I think you will find the RS sliders are a fair bit shorter than the NSR ones. I don't see why you couldn't shorten the NSR ones to match the RS though.

Do you have the RS triples too? You really (at least) want the top clamp, as the shape makes up for some of the shortness of the RS forks. I ran mine with 10mm poking out the top of the RS triple so I could use the RS master cylinder foam. The handling was superb once I had firmed it right up on the adjusters (it was a bit soft for an NSR and a blob like me!).

The geometry is very aggressive with the 91 RS forks fitted, especially with an HRC rear shock ride height adjuster wound out to MAX, but it works really well, especially with the big discs too.

You may notice the front fender is quite tucked up under nose of the fairing compared to standard forks.

Andy
Do you reckon these forks [rwu] are worth fitting over standard MC21 SP items or do the usd version give a better geometry and ride all be it at a higher cost if they can be found?
