I now have my hands on a PGM III and am slowly relieving it of the goo protecting the circuits. Lovely black rubber stuff.
I'll post more as I get into it... _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Dunno. I doubt this'll be up to much jusging by the circuit board damage.
Luckily I have my NSR here at work to play with, to I'll swap it on there and try it... _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Dave that PGM I gave you came from a running bike. But it would start smoking in minutes once you started it. The RC motor was frozen. I replaced the motor and PGM and the bike is running fine.
You can also see the capacitor (big drum thing) on the bootm right corner looks to have overheated - the inboard one has a domed top and split insulation.
This thing has got damn hot in the past! _________________ MC21SP Plaything

So what do you reckon Dave? Repairable, or is the damage too great?
The individual components aren't exactly expensive (if they can all be identified), but the overheating seems to have damaged the circuit board too, or is that just my interpretation of the images?
The secret seems to be, as soon as the RC Valve system starts to play up, disconnect it immediately! It sounds like it's normally unserviced/sticking RC Valves that cause the motor to strain and burn the circuitry out. Saying that... if the system was serviced properly!...
I'm still looking for a dead (RC Valve circuit) PGM for my tests too, so keep me posted, or if anyone else out there has one, let me know please.
The answer is preventative maintenance. I'm formulating an NSR-WORLD electrical fix that we should all apply BEFORE the damage occurs.
If I can produce something which is a simply plug in device (like an M-Max) then the Site could flog 'em to NSR owners the world over.
So no-one steal the idea ok? _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Not yet Jeff - my battery was dead so I've had the bike on a charger. If the battery comes good tomorrow I'll give it a go.
I've cleared some more rubber off there though, and so far the rest of the board looks fine... _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Hmmm. It doesn't want to start at all with your PGM yet fires up first time with mine. Maybe some of the cooked components were still working when the goo held them in place, and now I've removed it and they've shattered it's not functional. One of the transistors has come away completely as the board is toast where is should sit.
With any luck I'll be able to identify the components next week up in our electronics lab and replace all the parts that look dodgy. I still have no answer to the melted track question though... _________________ MC21SP Plaything
