Cylinder head/barrel compatibility?

Mon Apr 28, 2008 8:39 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi Guys,
I've just picked up another MC21R (the condition of which has to be seen to be believed Shocked ) but it has no cylinder heads on it. I also have 2 cylinder heads which I believe are off an MC21SP or SE. The heads have these numbers cast on them:

KV9L-RR2
KV3L-FR2

Both heads came off the same engine.
Are they compatible with standard MC21R barrels?

Cheers,

Mike.

R barrels on SP heads takes 0.2 mm off the squish and takes it closer to not being OK on normal pump fuel.

It works, but you need to be aware you're nearer the edge, weather conditions are more critical, setup is more sensitve.

Double/triple/quadruple check the DECK HEIGHT, as well as the letter on the side, should be 86.3mm for an R ("H") barrel.

You wouldn't be the first to fall for the old "deck height machineing at replating causes seizure" trick Embarassed

Whats the deck height for a SP (L) Barrel?

I have a hunch my barrels have had more than one visit to a machine shop. Confused

I guess my best (safest) option would be to try and swap my SP heads with someone who has spare R heads.
