Crank Rebuilding and Center Bearings

Wed Apr 30, 2008 4:54 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi,

With all this talk on rebuilding cranks and sourcing center bearings from various places Im hoping someone will be able to shed some light on a crank I have here...

This crank has been rebuilt - the bearings are not original Honda items. The center bearing is narrower than a standard bearing, it doesnt have provision for the seal, it doesnt have the oil gallery opening - none of them have the locating pin.

Is this what the replacement bearings you guys are using like?

The problem is the center bearing - having no seal may mean the engine wont run properly - this seal keeps the pressure in the two crank halves separate. Also with no provision for the oil gallery Im not sure if it will run dry?

Any thoughts?

People ar using original Koyo bearings(the ones Honda put into the NSR). Search the forum, a guy in Greece has found a source for all three of them.
Your bearings sound like totally unusable.

A friend of mine seized his running bearings similar to how yours sound.

Fenton has had some success apparently running bearings other than Koyo's but I believe the one's he found are "just" not rated for the speed. i.e. they are the correct size and fitment.

As mentioned you'll need a source for the o.e Koyo's, they are not available to retail.

Bearing in mind the age of some of the bikes, it would be good to compile a spec of the bearings required for all NSR models in the workshop section. What do you think Andy?

There's a Koyo web site for the UK and I'd be interested in finding out if we can get what we need for crank rebuilds
