I am just making you aware that your "views" counter is doubling up every view.
At first I thought it might have been that someone else had viewed in between me viewing so I tried it on an old post to make sure.
If you go to a post, view it then hit the back button and refresh the browser it definitely does count every view twice.

Just tried a couple of topics, and you are right, 2 of them showed +2 after I viewed them, but another only showed +1...

are you guys blinking when you view posts? I think if you blink while viewing a post, it will count as two.

Okay, that's probably not it... Ive been looking into this and still haven't found the issue. Will keep looking though?

so there is nothing in the code that will increase a post count more then once per actual view.

At first I was thinking it had to do with some tracking code I had in place (for giving me statistics on traffic to the forums), but I removed that and it was still seeing some cases of double view counts.

I am seeing a good number of web crawlers on the site (yahoo, google, MSN, AOL, etc.) at this time, so they could be the cause of it. I honestly hate web crawlers, and really hate the fact they ignore the robots.txt file I have setup to try to keep them to a minimum.

Blocking their IP's is a pain, that and it keeps the forums out of natural search results, so it's kind of a catch 22.

Not really worth worrying about too much. Some people will get the arse when they ask a question and think there's 20 views and no answer already , but I wouldn't waste too much time on it Charles.

its the "googlebot" crawling round forums looking for new or updated posts


Or as google say it "A Googlebot is a search bot used by Google. It collects documents from the web to build a searchable index for the Google search engine"

Thats what i was told when i had the same problem
