MC21 SP Serious Engine Problem

Thu Nov 11, 2004 12:18 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi all, I've just taken delivery of my freshly imported 1992 MC21 SP in nice Rothmans colours. I brought it in myself from a guy in Japan. All looks good when I turn up at the boat to get it, JHA race systems on it too!!!!!

So, get it home check 2T oil, water etc. Find this milky sh1t in the gearbox and no water in the rad or expansion tank. This stuff was literally pouring out of the gear oil filler hole!! So I filled the rad with water just to watch it slowly go into the gearbox and out through the oil fill!

Anyone ever seen anything like this or know what It could be??

Thanks in advance!

Oh!

I am definitely suspecting the ceramic seal behind the water pump impeller has broken up.

The best course of action will probably be to replace the casing as the ceramic seal is so easy to break when removing/replacing it. The real downside is that with the motor being a dry clutch variant is that the complete clutch assembly needs to be removed to change the casing.

Take a look at the Online Parts Manual for diagrams illustrating how the parts are assembled/disassembled.

Andy.

Thanks again Andy.

A refund is looking possible, after closer inspection I figured out it is not actually a SP at all! Its a R with the SP engine in it! Nice.

I will have to wait to see what he is going to do about it.

I'm ready for the hills!!! If he offers me enough money back (£1200) to repair it I'll probably be happy enough. Top end needs rebuilt, water leak needs sorted and a general tidy up! Only good thing that came from it was the JHA systems, they cost about £600 plus delivery I think!

Plus I dont know whats in the carbs, maybe someone has put HRC stuff into them when the bike was a bit younger and fresher?

I will let you all know what the outcome is..........
