Rectifier/regulator warning

Mon Aug 04, 2008 6:58 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

I just want to post about the ongoing troubles with my bike.

I remember telling someone about the Electrex (sic?) uprated rec/reg for NSR250. They have the RR30 part and now have a newer one, RR58. I have the RR58.

Since this part is fairly new on my MC28 race bike, I didn't consider it a culprit to my electrical problems. I finally started heading down the correct troubleshooting path and checked battery voltage whilst the bike was running, 10.0V. Must be the stator because my rec/reg is new..... WRONG. The Electrex part was killing batteries. Mounted up the original and working Honda part (14.5V at ~5k rpms) just in time to kick some SV650 ass over the weekend.

For reference, I had the part in my bike for a few years but it's only seen a dozen or so track days and about 8 race weekends.

Jim, thanks for the battery. It passed the "ton" test.

I've had electrex 2 years now on my MC21, No problems,

you Might have a faulty rec, They fail specially on hot race conditions. You also have to consider relocation of the Rec if you are racing. To get more air

I just bought this issue up on a different thread.

Failure is usually down to the mounting points.

Not only was it mounted correctly (on subframe in original location), it has large heatsink cooling fins for better heat dissipation.
