The person to ask would've been stephenrc45, as he's just fitted one to his RC45. Try e-mailing him for some info. At the end of the day, the whole hub assembly comes out of the swingarm, so if the OD (and width I guess) of the hub is the same (or could be sleeved), then there is no reason why an RC one can't be used. Don't expect it to come cheap mind you... the stuff for his RC is frighteningly expensive!
PM me for his e-mail address if you don't have it. _________________ Andy.

A friend of mine has the HRC axle for his RC45, its substantially larger than the RC30 so I know this won't fit. The RC30 swing arm and hub appear to be similar in size, dimension to the RS. I know you can swap the rear wheels between the two so I imagine the axle is the same. I have found a Japanese company who makes an RC30 kit style rear axle so I am hoping it fits. They haven't replied to my English inquiry though. RS, HRC kit, Ducati Corse, they are all $$$.
Thanks!

Yes, I keep getting drawn to the carbon fibre HRC watch and briefcase! Don't let silikesguiness see it!
The Tachyon axle kit does look the business. If I had an MC28, I'd have to get something like that for it! Someone was selling something similar on 2-strokes.com a while back. Not sure if it ever sold though. _________________ Andy.

Yes, that rear axle is a sweet bit! Not sure how it compares price wise to the HRC piece. I checked 2-stokes and couldn't find anything. I have a machinist friend who has made a few before from a stock axle. He bores the center, presses then welds a new stub shaft for the wheel side, threads it and fabs a nut to match. Not a bad solution. He runs one on his RC45 (street) so I would imagine it would be up to the task on a RS250 racer. _________________ Andre E. Benguerel

The dimensions (bearings etc) for pretty much all the S/S arm Honda stuff is the same as far as I am aware. The difference comes in the width of the hub and the method of holding the wheel onto the axle.
The RC45 I believe is the same width as the RS250, but the threads are left hand on the RC45 wheel side (to prevent the wheel undoing it) and right hand on the RS250 (because the arm is the other way around). Not sure about the sprocket drive end, I haven't taken an RS apart....
For info:
RC45, NR750 across bearings is 70mm. Will confirm with RS250 later in the week when I take one apart.
RC30, VFR750, VFR800, NC30, MC28 are 65mm
NC24 are (reputedly) the same but I've never measured one so I can't say for certain.
I believe that the NSR150 is 55mm, but this is from the 'horses mouth' information so it might be wrong.
Last weekend I was up at the machinists and we compared the RS250 and RC45 axles side buy side. The RS is shorter compared to the RC45 and the hub is also. The HRC axle he has fits both the RC30 and the RC45 so that rules out the RC30 being the same as the RS250.
It does appear that the wheel/drive pin arraignment is the same as well as the wheel side of the axle. My RS250 wheel fits the RC45 HRC axle perfectly.
So I can't see any way of using the RC axle in the RS! Please let me know if you find differently.
We are going ahead with our axle modification and I'll let you know how it turns out.

As you correctly state it is wider than the RC30 and narrower than the RC45.
It measures 67mm across.....
All Hondas from the humble (and rubbish)NSR150 to the NSR500v use the same hub centre diameter and the the same PCD for the locator pins or studs whichever they are fited with.
I tried the 45 axle in the NXA hub, it fits but requires a spacer to make it work, the drive hub bottoms on the splines. The 30 is to short. Could be made to work if it was the only axle in the world, but the right parts are the right parts.
Not sure if this helped or hindered, let me know if you want shots or more measurements
Thanks for the info Smithy. I am sure you mean NX5 though, as the NXA has a double sided swing arm
I am surprised the RC30 is narrower than the RS considering its weight. Good to know though. So it's not the same axle as the RC45 either. My machinist was going from memory, he ONLY had 3 RC45's in the shop on my last visit and not a RC30 for comparison.
You are correct.... A combination of rushing, thinking about one thing and letting your fingers work on something else never works....
I have a couple of questions about your mods
How did you keep the extension perpendicular to the axle?
Did you weld the extension to the original axle?
What material did you use for the axle extension?
Finally, did you use the Honda nut (Left hand thread) or did you make your own?
Since this is highly EXPERIMENTAL we are not sure how it will all work our but this is out plan...
The center of the axle was bored, squared to the face and parallel to the bearing surfaces. The axle is press fit into the bored hole and is zeroed.
The extension will be welded to the axle while chucked in lathe and zeroed. We'll monitor with a dial indicator and weld carefully (TIG) as to not induce a lot of heat and pull the extension off center.
The steel used is a Chrome Molly, SCM420 I think or 4130.
We used std. RH threads. My machinist "doesn't do LH threads." The nut was made by the machinist from alloy. Beta pin from HRC but it's a loaner. I need to find one.
Thanks for the compliment, I'll pass it on. Testing will tell how it works. Hopefully the wheel won't fall off. I didn't loose much weight wise, only 3 oz. but it's 3 oz. right! Probably the most $$ 3 oz. I'll ever pay for. _________________ Andre E. Benguerel
