You get a spark without even turning the engine over is that right?

How on earth are you getting a spark without turning the engine over?

You won't get spark unless the ignition circuit is on, and the flywheel passes by the pulse generators. So without turning the crank (as in kicking the engine over) you won't get spark. If you are then there is something seriously wrong with your electrical system.

I`d try unscrewing the pick-ups first and checking the wiring behind them. The insulation can get chaffed & worn through just where they meet the pick-ups.
Some people have found giving the flywheel triggers & the pick-ups a clean up can help, if they are showing signs of rust.
