I'm in the process of upgrading the standard suspension on my '16 until I get the parts together to fit better components and decent sized wheels. I'm looking to fit a cbr600rr shock on the rear and maybe do some work on the front end to firm the ride up a bit.
Are there any quick upgrades that can be done or am I better changing the fork oil for a thicker viscosity and making some preload spacers up for the springs?
I don't think there is much you can do as they are non adjustable.
If you're doing a swap, spending money on the old forks could be spent on getting your new front end. If they are in good nick. I'd leave them.
Me spend money?? Pah I'll be trying a bit thicker oil for the time being, maybe make some spring spacers up. there has to be something to make them firmer!
You can make them firmer, but at the same time you will be making them even less efficient I'm afraid!
The real answer is suspension off a later model. This also allows you to use bigger brakes and slightly wider tyres... in sizes you can actually get sticky rubber for.
I love the MC16's, but they are lost in the 80's and need considerable work to get anywhere near the performance of the later models! The MC18 on the other hand, was a huge advance over the '16. _________________ Andy.

Yeah, that's the best pound for pound upgrade for the MC16 front-end. Stiffer forks, better internals, bigger brakes, and wider rim for a 110 tyre. You can use any 3" front wheel from 1988 to 1996 NSR's, plus (if you're desperate) an NC29/NC30/NC35 3½" wheel. I would personally stick to an NSR wheel though.
You can use any MC18~28 discs, but only MC18 or MC21 calipers. MC28 calipers have different mounts. _________________ Andy.

I`ve got a front wheel for a MC21 with good Dunlop GPR70SP tyre on it.
Bought it from Apex for my race bike but never used it.
I`m not giving it away though! £100 was what I paid, so that is what I want for it! Plus postage of course.
