can you replace a mc16 wiring harness with a mc18

recently i was told by a friend that he recalled reading an article about replacing an mc16 wiring harness with a mc18 one. i've had a look through the forum topics without any luck.

You can use Mk1 MC18 (R2/4J) components, but you also need all the other associated parts such as the PGM, RC Valve controller, flywheel, stator (or modify the MC16 one) etc.

You will find the wiring for the instruments and switchgear etc. will need modifying, and some wires shortening and others lengthening. It's not a big job, but it's not a direct replacement either.
