The original headlamp bulb is a 35/60w, i've seen information that people have replaced them with the more modern 55/60w h4, how does this work out for those that have tried?

more over, what about replacing it with an HID and ballast?

Should be no problem for HID as the ballast is doing the work regardless.

Not sure on the jump from standard to modern bulb with out a relay change but should be OK as relay's are for the high beam

NSR's are 12V aren't they?

H4 bulbs work fine for me - I haven't run into any heat issues or wires melting if that's what you are asking

You will need a H4 bulb converter and have to remove some of the tabs on the bulb to get it to fit.

I was also curious about the HID route, and while they may work/fit, getting the bulb to aim properly in the stock headlamp housing could make your night time driving unsafe. Also getting a "good" HID kit is like buying chinese ABS fairings, kind of a crapshoot

So are the NSR bulbs H4R ?

That's what my ZXR uses and you do get HID version.

From what I can tell, it looks like the stock NSR bulb is H4R, although I've only ever seen "Stanley" on it with the wattage rating.

yeah i've got an older mcCullouch 4500k hid kit (ballest, d2r bulb rebased in a h4, and ignitor i had in my 600rr, i was thinking of putting that in. but i'd need to think of a way to make the high beam switch only trigger the H4 (55/60) for high beam.

and thanks, i was wondering if people were experiencing any wiring or other issues from a change in spec of bulb.

on that link, the guy goes to complain about the switch melting on the CBR250, hence why he's selling some relay kit and wires.

Be careful here, general opinion on 400greybike is that much of the trouble with all grey import Honda's blowing reg/recs is cause by running with 55w headlights turned on all the time.
