MC16 F-III...

Fri Apr 10, 2009 7:16 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Well, not for the want of trying, the only thing that I can't source are MC16 F-III wheels. Gold rocking horse teeth just isn't the phrase!

Anyway, does anyone know how wide the CBR600F1/Hurricane (i.e. "jellymould") 3-spoke wheels are? These are the same style as the MC16 wheels, and I'm hoping a similar width as the HRC ones.

Sample image:

I'm thinking now of rather than the Spencer Rothmans look, going the same way as Steve and making it an "out of the factory" F-III instead.

Apart from HRC wheels, I now have everything (plus a couple of special parts not in the book) to make this:

The MC16 F-III is the most similar to an RS than any other NSR. Even the clutch and transmission is RS, and the casing isn't even machined for a kickstart!

I even managed to find an almost new set of HRC GP pipes for it - even the HRC stickers on the bellies are intact! I have 6-spoke wheels, that fairing on the right, and that seat on the right (also have a genuine F-III seat, but it's in poor condition) but I'm considering whether to go "standard" F-III like Steve did with his MC21.

That would mean standard fairing (I have an almost brand new red top fairing, c/w ram-air scoops and headlight blank), the HRC race seat, and a works fuel tank. I'd need a couple of fairing panels and to get them painted, but that's not the end of the world. It's just the wheels I'm missing.

It would be great to see an out of the factory F3 bike, there are lots of modded MC16's but not many (if any) pucca well executed F3 replica's. Its certainly a bike I would travel to see.

Must be a set of F3' wheels tucked away in a shed in Japan, can Drew help?

I've only seen one set of MC16F-III wheels in 4 years of searching, and unfortunately they were bolted to a complete bike that I couldn't afford at the time.

It's a bit like trying to find HRC Astralights. They do come round, but about as often as Halley's Comet!

No harm in building the rest up and waiting for a pair of wheels, there arent many but then not many people are looking for them. Good luck.

I'm torn though. I have my heart set on a Fast Freddie replica (which to be authentic really needs the aforementioned Astralights, but I could make wheels out of 2 NS400 wheels and a VF1000 wheel) but the "stock" F-III does look really smart.

The 1989 MC18 F-III is easy though. I need a set of pipes for it, but I have plain white bodywork and everything else required. I could do with a standard F-III swingarm for it though, instead of the MotoBum F-III arm.

What we need is Steve to build his 1988 in "standard" F-III trim then, and we'd have a full set! Very Happy

I've already started building it but it's a very slow build that one. Must admit it would look good next to the '21 F-III

Well, aside the pipes, I think I have everything now for an "out-of-the-box" looking R5K-RK! (Thanks Rob for the white fuel tank too!)

It would be good to get them all lined up one day. I could almost be tempted to get a set of all-white MC16 bodywork, just to complete the look!

F-III MC16, MC18 Mk1, MC18 Mk2, and MC21 all sat together would be smart.
