hello all,i have just fitted another mc18 engine,in my bike, and noticed the crank position sensors were connected wrong, ,the plug has been cut off [because of another fault] and bullet crimped together, that is all fine, but some one had plugged 2 wires, differnt colour wires together, ,I ran it all up tonight and all is well now more left side missfires and no more crank nock,i cant belive the shop i took the bike to when it originally seized never noticed that, how long this engine will last is anouther thing,,, _________________ NSR250 MC18

It had a running fault about 3 years ago and that [pick up plug] was redone to eliminate it i belive,im an electrician and it looks like it has all been done properly, but i think i now know why it seized up
1.carbs un balenced,
2.wrong/odd sparkplugs
3.crank possition sensors pluged in wrong,
4.power valves adjusted wrong/slack
5.bottom end nock [main bearings]
it said it was mecanicaly EXCELLENT in the advert ,when mr howl had it it was all good,dynoed/setup etc,it is a mistery what happened to it between him and me [8mounths],,,,well i just never realised how hard/rear the parts are for these bikes [mc18].but i have learnt to never assume any thing when working on these bikes, and the parts are avaleble you just have to find them, with out the internet these bikes would be long gone and near impossible to sauce parts,i have been woundering how many mc18s there are in england,,, _________________ NSR250 MC18
Hi
I'm glad you found the fault and got it all sorted, looks like someone has had a right go at it before you got it . The connectors were done when I was trying to find the intermittant fault which turned out to be a pic up. They were even numbered !
Now just don't get nicked speeding !
hello mr howl, yes i remember you telling me about the fault,i also read it on hear when you first got it,i really dont know what the guy who i got it off was doing, but ive done 50miles on the my new bottomend and it seems fine,i have also changed fuel to 97ron bp ultimate, and it seens to run smoother and starts better/easyer,i have also fitted the steering damper,it does feel nice , i think you should get yourself anouther nsr, _________________ NSR250 MC18
