Hi, does any one know what is the best size tyre to put on the rear of a standard mc18 wheel the spec. shows 140/60/18 but the last guy that owned the bike had a 160/60/18. What tyre make do you recommend as I am nearly finished rebuilding the bike and want to get the tyres put on.
both the R2/4 and R5 use the same rim 18 inch 4 inch wide. I have the BT090 150 on there now and I feel it sits too flat. I can't use all the tyre even scraping fairings and pegs at the track. Getting hold of a 140 from Bridgestone seems next to impossible but is listed occasionally. My Brother had a 140 BT090 fitted to a 17/4inch rear and it profiles much better than the 150.
My next guess was the GPRa10 which list a 140 and 150 for the 18inch rear. What are guys choosing? How does the 150 profile look and work on a 4inch. Both the KR1s, MC18, and VJ21 all use the same rear wheel dimensions so must be some collective experience.
I have emailed Sean from the Tuning shop to see what he sells as the most common size so will come back to this.
some pics of the 150 BT090 on the KR1s 18/4 inch rim. Bit hard to tell but will post pics of the GPRa10 150 that I'm fitting on Monday and hopefully the diff with be easier to see...otherwise it will be the 140 I guess
I stand corrected...thanks Stephen. There I was happily swapping rims and tyres for racing and not noticing. 140 for the R2/4, and 150 for the R5/6 it is then.
Thanks for your help, I have just ordered a pair off Dunlop Sportmax GPR A 10 with a 140 rear and the 110 front. Demon tweeks seem to be the cheapest that I could find.
Thanks Daz.
I'd rather line his pocket than Demon Tweaks. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
Thanks, I`ll give them a ring to see what price their dunlops are. Its the delivery cost to the Isle of Man that is the killer, some companies think it`s the other side of the world.
Put the 150GPRa10 on today and it had a worse profile than the BT090 150 Bridgestone so went with the 140 which is pictured. It is a lot skinnier to look at but has a nice round profile
looks like there is a Bridgestone slick still available for those stubborn enough to want the standard rim in. Am fitting it shortly so will post a pic for anyone interested
