MC28 Ignition problem

Fri Sep 04, 2009 10:59 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Ok so I have my bike back together. This is my first mc28. during stripdown i removed a second kill switch that had been added to totally disconnect the battery like a battery switch.

Now i have the problem of the bike staying on, well the lcd carries on displaying stuff when the card is removed. I guess this is not correct, so the question is has anyone else had this problem, and how do you fix it? The second kill switch was used to fix the problem by simply cutting off the battery but i dont want this. If the battery is disconnected then reconnected the LCD does not display anything but then if the card is incerted and removed the LCD stays lit.

Another thing to note is up by the PGM some wires have been cut and reconnected but look to be in original order.

Removing the card with the stock mc28 wiring loom should kill the power.

Check the switch that putting the card in switches, you'll have to remove the clocks from the PGM to see it.

This is not the case with the HRC loom, with that if the kill switch is on, power is flowing and the battery is going flat wheather the card is in or not.

Pretty sure it's not an HRC loom coz I have all street gear. When the card is removed I can hear a relay switching so guess it is working ok but definatly will pull it apart and check the switch out.

Ok got it sorted. Had to basicly go through the wiring diagram till I understood how the system worked.

It was a really simple fix. There was and extra fuse in the fuse box which jumpered between the 12v line and all the sub components. There is supposed to be a null fuse or no fuse there so the connection is not made.

So stoked I have the problem fixed.
