what would happen if the distance from the expansion chamber to the cans was lengthend just a bit. i have been thinking of custom welding a pair to sort of look like the cans on a RC51. so both cans would come right up to the back of the tail and angle in a bit.
You can get away with quite abit on a 4 stoke, but 2 stoke pipes are something else. I think you might end up wishing you hadnt messed with them once you try and set everything up to suit, some pipe designs just wont work. Good luck tho if you try. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
I dunno about the can distance, as it's the cone / reverse cone that sets the power isn't it? The standard pipes have different length tubes from the expansion chamber to the bean cans to make them look the same either side, whereas tuned exhausts tend to have the cans staggered.
Maybe we should speculate for a while until Matt comes along and tells us we're all dunses.
Come on, someone have a go before the pro's get here! _________________ MC21SP Plaything

The size, length, and shape of the pipe joining the chamber to the end can, all have a bearing on the characteristics of the power output.
A very small change to just one of the pipes on TYGA's GP style chambers in the area you are talking about made the difference between the pipe working just "OK" and working extremely well!
If you have access to a dyno then it would be interesting to see the effects of your trials!
well i am going to try on a extra set of pipes i have , so if it is a failure ,then no loss. i kind of figured there was a reason that all pipes on v twin 2 strokes are stagered.
It's a reason why the GP style pipes (until TYGA came along) often produced a different, usually lower, kind of power to the SP style pipes. The guys racing would always opt for the SP configuration, and the posers would go the GP route because ultimate power wasn't such an issue.
It's only because "it's what TYGA do" that Matt spent so much time developing their GP pipes, and they now work just as well as the "normal" configuration. It's something the likes of Jha and Dogfight could never justify because they would sacrifice too much development time/money from other (what they consider more important) areas.
There is of course an optimum length for the tail pipe to give the 'perfect' power curve, but that's not to say that it will be ruined by a few changes.
If you're thinking of just extending the original tail pipes with the same diameter tube then be sure to jet up a tad for initial testing as you could suffer over heating and detonation. The best plan might be to cut the pipe right from the end of the final cone and then use tube a fraction bigger in internal diameter. with the additional length it 'should' act in a similar way to the stock pipe.
Huh. So much for us flailing around in the dark with our theories for a while! _________________ MC21SP Plaything
