I know that it has probably been posted before but I cannot find it, but is there any problems with using the shorter cylinder studs in place of the 2 longer ones (7mm x 52mm) as I cannot source them anywhere, have looked at machining them to 8mm but not convinced that the cylinder walls would hold up ok. Any suggestions would be great.

As long as there's enough thread to pull the head down you'll be ok.

You want the top of stud at least flush with the top of the nut when fully torqued down.
