T1 28 Barrels.

Sat Oct 03, 2009 6:30 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

It will probably get missed as most people just glance through posts so thought I would start a new post. I have done a search but nothing has come up.

Got my hands on an mc16, the barrels on there are marked T1 28 at the bottom on a round marking. Concidering the age of the bike I was wondering if someone previous has done a barrel swap? Have I got mc28 barrels?

Are they round (MC21/MC28) or hexagonal (MC16/MC18) in shape?

Do the heads each have a take-off on top of the main coolant hose union, with a small-bore (about 5mm ID) hose attached? This would almost certainly signify MC16, although MC18 heads bolt straight on to '18 cylinders.

I very much doubt someone will have fitted MC28 barrels and heads to an MC16.

I thought they looked round, I will have another look tomorow and take a quick pic. I just got a little exited when I saw 28 on them.
Suppose it wouldent make that much difference as I could port them myself but would save a little work, not sure what the port map is like on the 16 but I did see the 21 port map in the tuning section.

Think im going to keep the 16 and do a rolling rebuild, will have to be like that as im a little un'employed at the moment Sad

MC16 exhaust ports are tiny, so there`s huge scope for improvement. See if you can buy up an old knackered MC18 barrel and copy the porting. Wink

I would gess then for a set mc16 of pistons and barrels that knowone wants about £40 tops....

Just a thought on having a spare set to port, build my own pipes, 28mm carbs should be good for around mid 65hp.
