So i go round a corner, the 21 se lifts, winds on the power, and 'sweet' right, but if im taking off straight i get song and dance (coughing, lil bit of choking)

it seems a weird issue to me, thought i better put it forward. Has anyone had symptoms where angle of the bike persuades performance.

Yes float heights were my first suspect, many carby rebuilds later i replaced the spark plugs. Would'nt you know it, she sprang into life..

Which leads me to ask the question.. How do you ascertain a dead spark plug?

When it won't fire properly! Wink

Just replace them regularly, with the plugs specified by Honda, despite what some will insist is OK, according to the service schedule, and you should be OK.

Its true, and that is the only way to tell.

I've never run the wrong plugs (other than running shorty RS plugs) but I've run some in pretty awful condition (bet it shocks some of you to find me cutting corners eh?) and I've never found had a problem with one.

Though to be fair if/when I do have a problem, new sparkplugs are the very first thing I try. They really help with starting if nothing else.

thats the funny thing, i replaced them like 3 months ago using the rec. plugs.
One of them was obviously faulty i guess. so 'out with the new, in with the old', no worries there

I've never had it happen myself, but I have heard of "bad" new spark plugs before.

I've seen faulty new sparkplugs and faulty new condensers (yes I am that old) whn I've been working on cars in the past.

To be fair, ask Racer38 about anything that involves wielding a spanner and you're likely to get an "interesting" story or two.
