Ok, second time around. Do you guys have the same problem where you have to log in almost every page you go to? If I reply I have to login. If I view a thread on another page I have to login, everything I do I have to login constantly. Every reply I send I have to typ twice because I'll type my reply then I'll click submit and it will ask me to login. Then I enter my login details and it doesn't accept it and asks me again and again and again and just won't accept my login details. So I have to go back and retype everything. It's SUCH a pain...
Anyway, thanks for your reply guys. It's not that I want to go 6 inch I'm just trying to find out what the widest is that I can go that will still work so that when it comes time to buy wheels I know what size to buy and not end up buying something that doesn't fit.

A stock (4.5") '21 rim clears the chain by less than 0.75" so a 6" rim is going to hit it.
The 6" rim is also going to require at least a 180 tyre which once again isn't going to clear the chain.
Even a 170 on a 5" or a 5.5" rim is going to be very very close.
Any reason for going that big?
I can understand going to a 5" or even 5.5" rim on a racebike to allow the running of gp250 or Supermoto tyres but anything bigger isnt going to have suitable rubber available even if you can get it in there and "working".

Can't comment much more than what Fontyyy's said. Even a 165 slick on an HRC rim is so close to the chain it hurts... and with very little deflection in the sidewall in certain circumstances probably will touch it. _________________ Andy.

Agreed. Fat may look better but on a bike where nimble handling is it's forte, then fat is the wrong way to go.
150 is the same size tyre as by FJ1100, which was only built 6 years earlier!
As per Fontyyy, I can understand changing rim size so you can access better track rubber, but otherwise, spend your money more wisely! _________________ MC21SP Plaything

a 6 inch rim? that's way more tire then a small 250 needs!
Stick with stock and you will be fine. if you feel your out riding the tires, I would look at your suspension setup and get a set of super sticky 110/150 setup.
Ta for the replies dudes. After market rims don't seem to come in the sizes you are all talking about and as such it makes wheel choice a bit difficult. If the after market wheel market would cater for such sizes then I guess I wouldn't have to consider a different size.
I'm not pushing for a bigger size, I'm actually just trying to gauge what my options are if I were to employ a set of new wheels front and back. I have an eye on a set of PVM 7 or 10 spoke rims but the smallest size they do em in is 5.5". I was chatting to Matt from Tyga and he suggests that they have done that before and got a 5.5" to work but the problem is that the swingarm needs modding and I aint up for that either.
I looked at Marchesini rims too and those too only come out in large sizes. Is there no after market brand that makes the size we need for these bikes? What about the wheels that the GP 250 guys use? Who makes those?
I really don't fancy that stock wheels, otherwise I would stick to them but because I can't get nice looking wheels at the right size I'm forced to look bigger. Bit of a pickle I find myself in....
I am having a ZXR636 5.5 inch rear modified to fit my NSR purely to match the front, which has a complete front end of the ZXR (fully adjustable USD forks with radial calipers). The front end conversion works EXTREMELY well but I will only be able to comment on the rear once it's finished. The 5.5 is tight, but the bike looks better with matching wheels.

I just fancy a set of marchesini's very much more than what the bike comes with. Who knows hey? If Deon comes through with photos and can vouch for reliability of the conversion he's doing then I may go down the same road...
It would be great to have something of my own choosing on my bike as opposed to settling because of restraints you know what I mean?
