does anyone know what is the main difference between the pgm-I, pgm-II and PGM-III.??
other than the wire splice.

Electronically lots if you dug out the potting to inspect them visually. Programming on each is quite different for each model and in fact in some cases multiple "maps/programs" were available.

PGM-I combined the individual CDIs and included an air correction system.

PGM-II integrated the CDI and RC Valve systems.

PGM-III has 3D mapping, with a G.P.S. and separate maps for each gear.

PGM-IV has a cosmetic card instead of an ignition key, and took a step backwards to a single map for all gears!
